On Sharon's resignation
It's funny reading all the articles on Sharon's resignation from Likud. They keep writing how he is sure that he would have won the primary to stay as the leader of Likud. After all the polls showed he would have won.
Of course the same polls showed Sharon's ally Shimon Peres winning by 25% in the Labor party primaries. Of course he was defeated and is now considering ending his political career.
There is little chance Sharon would have won the Likud primaries. The same members who voted against disengagement by a landslide, would be voting in the primaries. Disengagement has already shown itself to have been a failure, with the continued PLO terrorist attacks from Gaza. Add to this the terrorist attacks against the Galil from Lebanon gives more proof that Israeli withdrawal from "occupied" territories only leads to more violence and death on both sides.
